Shipping has always been the life blood of the Fremantle community after the original settlement was established in 1829, and since 1844 pilotage operations have been diligently and professionally undertaken. This enduring service has been faithfully upheld for more than 175 years, with the stewardship passing into the capable hands of the Fremantle Pilots since 1994.
Our Marine Pilots are widely experienced Master Mariners who prior to joining Fremantle Pilots, are required to have obtained Master Unlimited 1 certification and gained significant pilotage experience in other ports. This ensures we source highly skilled Pilots who possess as a minimum a sea going qualification equivalent to that of the ship’s Master, and in addition have proven pilotage and ship handling skills.
