Huge congratulations to Freo Pilot Matt Even and his crew Matt Thur for taking out the premier Powercraft category (10hp Sports) in this year’s Avon Descent. This is Matt’s eleventh Avon but his first win after multiple podium finishes (seconds and thirds). The Powercraft category is not for the faint hearted with Matt’s ‘Team 100’ averaging 57.5 km/h over the 124 km course from Northam to Bayswater. Their maximum speed was 74 km/h, not bad for a 9.9hp engine, and significantly faster than Matt is used to doing whilst piloting ships in Fremantle!
Matt started racing in 2009 after being introduced to this exciting and unique sport by his boss at Captain Cook Cruises, where he worked as a youngster.
